Sept. 27, 2023–All 14 students who graduated from the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at 大象传媒 this year passed the national board exams on their first attempt.

鈥淎 100% pass rate on a national exam is an exceptional achievement, and I am proud to congratulate our students for their outstanding performance and our faculty who prepared them so diligently,鈥� said Dr. Laura Reynolds, provost and vice president of academic affairs. 鈥淭he PTA program is an outstanding example of the way 大象传媒 Western prepares our students for life after graduation.鈥�

大象传媒 Western鈥檚 100% pass rate on the compares to a national average of 83.6%. The students鈥� success is the result of some deliberate changes the program has made to better prepare graduates for a career in physical therapy.

鈥淲e have been working very hard the past three years to make curriculum changes to reflect the needs of the workforce and to better prepare students for the board exam,鈥� said Dr. Maureen Holtz, assistant professor and director of the PTA program. 鈥淭he attainment of a 100% first-time pass rate underscores the legacy of quality and commitment to excellence that the MWSU PTA program has demonstrated since its beginning 25 years ago.鈥�

大象传媒 Western PTA students not only do well on the board exam, they earn employment in the field. Holtz says the program has had a 100% job placement rate after one year in each of the last three years, and she expects that to continue with the Spring 2023 class.

鈥淲hile the success of our graduates on the board exam certainly demonstrates the high level of knowledge attained in the program, we as a program are most proud of the level of professionalism that our students have developed, which prepares them to continue to grow as health care professionals,鈥� Holtz said.

大象传媒 Western offers an Associate of Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assistant degree that prepares students for a rewarding hands-on healthcare career in a variety of clinical settings. The program begins each fall, and students take a total of 72 credit hours over four semesters and two Summer sessions.

The 2023 PTA graduates will be honored for their 100% pass rate at halftime of the Griffon football homecoming game vs. Emporia State Saturday. Also honored will be the December 2022 nursing graduates, who also achieved a 100% pass rate on their licensing exam, the NCLEX-RN.

April 14, 2023–The 大象传媒 School of Nursing and Health Professions will host a Health Professions Open House for prospective students on Wednesday, April 19.

Participants will be able to meet with 大象传媒 Western faculty and learn more about careers in health, sport and exercise science, nursing, physical therapy assistant, population health management, respiratory therapy and social work. Tours of the state-of-the art labs in Murphy Hall are included. Light refreshments will be served.

Check-in will begin at 5 p.m. in the Eder Hall Lobby, with activities scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30. Admission is free, but advance registration is requested at .

In the event of inclement weather, the commencement ceremony will be held inside the Looney Complex arena at 2 p.m. Saturday. Because of limited seating in the arena, tickets have been issued to graduates for the indoor ceremony.

Seating will be available in Potter Hall to accommodate guests who prefer not to sit outside if the ceremony is held in Spratt Stadium, or who are unable to be seated in Looney if weather forces the ceremony indoors.

Dr. Robyn Gleason has been named associate dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions at 大象传媒. Dr. Gleason, previously dean of graduate nursing at Keiser University in Florida, will begin her duties in January.

鈥淒r. Gleason鈥檚 strong background in nursing, public health and health information has prepared her well to provide strong oversight of the unique admissions processes, regulatory expectations, clinical affiliations and other factors that make the programs in the School of Nursing and Health Professions unique,鈥� said Dr. Kathleen O鈥機onnor, dean of professional studies. 鈥淯nder her leadership I believe our high-quality healthcare programs can grow even stronger.鈥�

Dr. Gleason earned her doctorate in nursing and master鈥檚 degrees in nursing and public health from the University of Florida. She also received a graduate certificate in health informatics from Duke University. Prior to joining Keiser University in 2015, she taught at the University of Florida College of Nursing and Bethune-Cookman University鈥檚 School of Nursing. Dr. Gleason is a 2016 Fellow in the Leadership in Academic Nursing Program of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
