law enforcement academy cadets

The y will hold its graduation ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3 in the Kemper Recital Hall, Spratt Hall room 101.

With 17 graduates, the current LawEnforcement Academy class (Number 55) is the largest in many years. All 17 have secured employment with area law enforcement agencies, including the St. Joseph Police Department, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, DeKalb County
Sheriff’s Office, Hamilton Police Department, KCI Airport Police, Lawson Police Department, Maryville Public Safety, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office and Trenton Police Department.

The current class is a true cross-section of our community, including a culturally diverse group of men and women who have started the academy. Cadets complete approximately 800 hours of training approved by the for the opportunity to sit for the state licensing exam to become a peace officer.

The lawenforcement academic and practical training includes legal, first responder, emergency response, de-escalation, defensive tactics and weapons training.
