The course will provide an introduction to the flora and fauna of tropical ecosystems and the Caribbean in particular. Major systems of study will include; coral reefs, mangroves, sand flats, and subtropical forests. Experiences in species identification and research will be a part of the focus within these systems. The coral reef and other tropical marine ecosystems are a special focus in this field study of The Bahamas where data collection, observations and interactions with marine life are accomplished by snorkeling in coral reef ecosystems each day while abroad. The field study aspect of the course provides for an excellent enrichment to a student’s biology or other natural history studies.
