The Mathematics Placement Exam (MPE) is an exam created by 大象传媒 Western faculty using institutional data to more accurately place students into courses that they will have a higher opportunity to succeed in.<\/p>\n

Students will be placed in a Math course based on ACT Math subscores (see table below). Students with no ACT score, or with a math subscore below 22, will be placed in MAT110E* or MAT111E*. The “E” indicates a required lab course that you will take alongside the lecture to assist in your success in the course. If you wish to challenge this placement, you can take the MPE to test into MAT110 (Contemporary Problem Solving),* MAT111 (Introductory Statistics),* MAT112 (Finite Mathematics),* or MAT116 (College Algebra).*<\/p>\n

Higher-level math courses may be required for some majors.<\/p>\n

About the Math Placement Exam (MPE):<\/h2>\n

Explanation:<\/strong> This exam is taken in person on the 大象传媒 Western campus.<\/p>\n

Incoming Freshmen:<\/strong> Students attending an upcoming Griffon Orientation may RSVP through Admissions to take the Math Placement Exam the morning of their Griffon Orientation. Use the link in your email or contact (816) 271-4266 or admissions@missouriwestern.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you are attending an online orientation session or cannot take the exam on your orientation day, please register for an alternate date using the link below.<\/p>\n

Early College Academy:<\/strong> Once you have received a 大象传媒 Western student number (G number) and email address, you may register for the Math Placement Exam.<\/p>\n

Once you pass with at least a 70%, you will be allowed to register in either MAT110\/111\/112 or 116. If you do not pass, you are allowed to take the exam once per week, as many times as you wish. PLEASE NOTE: You must pass this exam before registering for MAT110\/111\/112 or 116. If you do not pass and do not wish to retake the placement exam, you will be placed in MAT110E\/111E.<\/p>\n

Overview:<\/strong> You may attempt the Math Placement Exam once<\/strong> per week and you will be allowed one hour to take the exam. Once you have logged onto the WPE, you will not be permitted any other access. Any evidence of plagiarism, cheating, or outside help will result in a zero for the exam and you will not be permitted to retake the exam.<\/p>\n
