This program would offer early admission into the School of Medicine&#8217;s M.D. Program for students currently in their sophomore or junior year of college.<\/p>\n<\/div><style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-1 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"font-size:26px;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:31px;\"><h2 class=\"title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;font-size:1em;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Application Timeline<\/span><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\" style=\"font-size:12pt;transform:translate3d(0,0,0);\"><p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>May 1: Medical Scholars Program Application becomes available. (visit online at <a href=\"https:\/\/med.umkc.edu\/md\/med_scholars_program\/timeline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">med.umkc.edu\/md\/med_scholars_program\/timeline\/<\/a>)<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nCurrent college students may apply to the program during the summer between their sophomore and junior year or junior and senior year of college.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">August 1: Application deadline.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nThe School of Medicine Medical Scholars program application is due by this date. All supporting documents must also be postmarked by this date, including college transcripts, personal statement, resume, and letters of recommendation.<\/p>\n<\/div><style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-2 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"font-size:26px;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:31px;\"><h2 class=\"title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;font-size:1em;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Requirements for Consideration<\/span><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\" style=\"font-size:12pt;transform:translate3d(0,0,0);\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to be considered for the Medical Scholars program, a student must meet the following requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Obtain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher at the end of the sophomore year.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earn a grade of \u201cB\u201d or higher in science coursework.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students must present a full application which will include the following:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.med.umkc.edu\/med_admissions\/med_scholars\/Med_Scholars.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Medical Scholars Program Application<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>(<a href=\"https:\/\/med.umkc.edu\/md-kansas-city\/med_scholars_program\/timeline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/med.umkc.edu\/md-kansas-city\/med_scholars_program\/timeline\/<\/a>)<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College transcript displaying grades through the point of application.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Personal statement or essay addressing the following:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What has motivated you to study medicine? Why are you interested in the UMKC Medical Scholars program?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">R\u00e9sum\u00e9 or CV, highlighting specific health care experiences.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A minimum of three letters of recommendation, including at least one from a faculty member.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-3 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"font-size:26px;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:31px;\"><h2 class=\"title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;font-size:1em;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Final Requirements for Students Admitted to the Medical Scholars Program<\/span><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-4\" style=\"font-size:12pt;transform:translate3d(0,0,0);\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Matriculation to the UMKC School of Medicine is conditional upon meeting the following requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earn a baccalaureate degree prior to entering the School of Medicine in January of the chosen year.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earn a combined MCAT score of 500 or higher.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earn an AMCAS BCPM (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics) GPA of 3.5 or higher.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Complete the following pre-requisite coursework with a grade of B or higher:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One semester of biochemistry<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One semester of genetics<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One semester of cell biology<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Students must earn a grade of \u201cB-\u201d or better in all other science coursework.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At graduation, provide a letter of support from an academic advisor or faculty member addressing citizenship.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Submit the General Application for Admission to UMKC and the AMCAS application<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Submit to and pass a criminal background check prior to matriculation to the School of Medicine. <\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Submit the School of Medicine <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.med.umkc.edu\/med_admissions\/Technical_Standards.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technical Standards<\/a><\/strong> sheet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-4 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"font-size:26px;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:31px;\"><h2 class=\"title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;font-size:1em;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions for Application<\/span><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-5\" style=\"font-size:12pt;transform:translate3d(0,0,0);\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An application will NOT be reviewed until all supporting documents have been received. These should be submitted directly to the School of Medicine by professors, advisors, or others who can speak to your academic ability and personal characteristics.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the review of all complete applications by the Council on Selection in the School of Medicine, candidates will be selected for interview. If selected for an interview, applicants will be required to be present at the date and time of the interview. All applicants invited to interview must interview in person at the School of Medicine. Phone interviews will not be permitted.\u00a0 After all applicants invited have been interview, the Council on Selection will extend offers of guaranteed admission to those candidates who best qualify for the Medical Scholars Program.
